Safari Itinerary Summary

Sunday, 29 October 2017

Welcome to Livingstone!
In his search for ‘’the Smoke that Thunders” David Livingstone discovered one of the most majestic sights in the world and to this day, the spectacular Victoria Falls has the power to leave man speechless with its beauty. It is beside this World Heritage Site that the quaintly colonial, Livingstone Town was born. As a popular entry point into Zambia it offers the intrepid traveller an adventure destination and ideal jumping off point to some of the most untouched game parks available.
Livingstone provides the same escapades which make Victoria Falls so appealing: heart-stopping white water rafting and bungee jumping, elephant back safaris and walks with lions, and glorious aircraft flips over the falls. The sprawling town of Livingstone is home to vibrant markets and museums dedicated to the local culture, history and rich railway heritage.

29, 30 & 31 October 2017

Upon arrival at Livingstone Airport you will be met and take a short road transfer Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma to spend 3 nights on a fully inclusive basis in a Treehouse with private decks.

Nestled along riverine trees on the banks of the Zambezi River, within the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, lies the Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma Lodge. A mere 12 kms upstream from the majestic Victoria Falls, the property boasts a remote setting, without being too removed from the main hub. 12 Sussi tree-houses are well appointed and enjoy muted tones, natural wood floors and open-plan bathrooms. Stunning vistas may be appreciated from private decks. Soak up river views from the elevated bar in the two-level main lodge, select fine wines from the cellar and savour delicious meals in the open-air dining room. This is a Livingstone destination, not a safari camp or game viewing lodge – although it comes with lots of extras. Guests may enjoy a tour of the Falls on the Zambian side, a sundowner cruise, local school and Nakatindi village tour, a game drive and walking safari through the Mosi oa Tunya National Park, canoeing on the Zambezi and as an optional extra seasonal fishing.

Wednesday, 1 November 2017

Depart Livingstone by road transfer to Chobe in Botswana.

Chobe is synonymous with elephant, its reality the unforgettable sightings of gentle giants frolicking in the waters, or moving slowly through desert-like stretches of sand, ears flapping to the slow rhythm of nature. Here in their natural environment, the splendour of majestic creatures can truly be appreciated. Chobe National Park boasts four distinctly different eco systems: the spectacular Chobe floodplain and river to the northeast, the Savute Marsh in the west, the Linyanti Swamps in the northwest and, in-between, the hot dry hinterland of Nogatsaa and Tchinga. With an elephant population well in excess of 40,000 (reputedly the largest in the world), Chobe’s river and floodplain area ranks among Africa's premier safari destinations.
In addition to the massive herds of elephant, the park is home to the more unusual, shy antelope species such as roan, sable, tsessebe, eland and red lechwe. Rare Chobe bushbuck and puku make an appearance, and high densities of lion, leopard, spotted hyena and cheetah complete the safari experience. During the dry season months of May to October the floodplains of the river support large herds of Cape buffalo. Woven into a melodious tapestry, the sounds of over 450 bird species merge with the harsher call of the big game, and the chatter and alarm calls of the inhabitants. Between September and March, the migrant breeding season, Chobe becomes a bird-lovers heaven, under a blanket of colour and harmony.

1, 2 & 3 November 2017

You will spend 3 nights at Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero in a Cottage, fully inclusive.
Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero borders the Chobe National Park, and commands stunning views over the Chobe River, islands and floodplains from its elevated position. 14 thatched cottages enjoy an African flavour - the muted colour scheme and spacious rooms offering a tranquil retreat. Cottages open up to verandahs with private gardens where guests may savour quiet dinners. A honeymoon suite features its own pool, and has the exclusive use of a safari vehicle and ranger. Game drives reveal sable, roan, impala, kudu and red lechwe, as well as the high population of elephant, buffalo and hippo which inhabit the reserve. As the day draws to a close, sip sundowners on a gentle river cruise.

Saturday, 4 November 2017

Depart Chobe Chilwero by road to Kasane and then by bush plane into the Okavango Delta to land at Stanley's Camp airstrip in the Okavango Delta.
As old as time, the seasonal flood from the Angola Highlands is the heartbeat of Botswana. Seeping along the panhandle and into the largest inland delta system in the world, the water creates a uniquely beautiful National Heritage Site, the incoming tide of life bringing with it birth, transformation and replenishment. These ancient, cyclical changes provide an exceptional safari experience and the area supports vast herds of elephant, buffalo and hippo, as well as numerous antelope, giraffe, zebra and the ever present predators.
From March the waters spread outwards, reaching the inner delta by June and peaking in July and August. The inbound flow creates a buzz of energy as it spans out towards Maun, the country as a whole conscious of the gift the waters bring, and caught up in the primordial movement.
Depending on nature’s temperamental dictates, the flood levels vary each year, never under the control of man. This makes it difficult to assess what will happen in the upcoming season: the Delta may swell up to 3 times its size. Under natural forces, the face of the earth renews itself, the landscape of channels, grasslands, reed islands and lagoons burst with life and vitality. As the levels recede in October, the earth starts to dry altering the scenery and game viewing. The summer months bring life from a new angle, and the November/December rains come, announcing the green season, and a land lush and verdant. Whether flood or rain, water, the very essence of life, plays a vital role in the Okavango Delta.

4, 5 & 6 November 2017

You will spend 3 nights at Stanley's Camp in a Luxury Tent on a fully inclusive basis.
Stanley’s Camp is located in a 105,000 hectares private concession bordering the Moremi in the Okavango Delta. It enjoys expansive views over seasonal floodplains. Known for its highly recommendable “Living with Elephants” experience, Stanley’s offers the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the magnificent giants of the bush. The area also boasts massive buffalo herds - sometimes in excess of 2,000 animals. 8 classic, canvas safari tents sit on elevated platforms, and feature private decks with hammocks - ideal for afternoon snoozes. Central guest spaces include a dining area and lounge with beautiful landscape vistas. Meals are served at a variety of locations and private dinners can be organised on request. Perhaps cool off in the pool in between exciting game drives, elephant interaction and mokoro excursions (usually between Mar-Oct, subject to water levels).

Tuesday, 7 November 2017

Depart Stanley's by light aircraft with a flight to Maun to connect with your onward flight to Johannesburg.

  1. These bookings are often taken a year in advance and if anything happens to a member of your party during that year which affects your ability to travel, you would then, be able to claim back any cancellation fees.
  2. You are travelling to wilds of Africa and you want to make sure that if anything unforeseen was to happen whilst on your trip that you are protected.
  3. It is a condition of travelling with Weekend a la Carte that you have a policy in place.

We recommend TAGCONNECT for insurance as they are travel specialists.
