Ecca Lodge

Ecca Lodge is intimate, relaxed, stylish and trendy. Emblazoned with the vibrant colours and textures of the African people, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a funky cosmopolitan penthouse, until you step outside that is …  Blessed with breathtaking views over an Acacia, Aloe and Spekboom-studded valley, this chic lodge with a laid-back vibe offers the perfect wildlife experience for the young at heart.

Expansive wooden viewing decks provide the ideal setting to soak up the bushveld atmosphere with a leisurely lunch or a sundowner drink. Rooms are airy and open, with barely a barrier between the indoors and the African bush. Highlights of the guest areas include the open interactive kitchen, a gorgeous rim-flow lap pool and the nearby interpretive library. The 6 stand-alone and well-proportioned suites have been individually decorated, each in a different colour in celebration of the vibrance of Africa. Wraparound wooden decks with private plunge pools provide relief from the heat of the day. Furnishings are in soft linens, velvets, cords and eco-cottons in striking, bright and contrasting tones. Super-king sized beds, large bathrooms with free-standing baths and separate lounge areas with funky bean bags and day beds that can be reconfigured to accommodate children, all combine to provide a relaxing, sumptuous and colourful respite from dusty days out on the reserve. Outdoor showers tip a broad wink at safari tradition.

Safari Experience

At Kwandwe, your days are designed to thrill you with intimate wildlife encounters and your evenings to delight you with the indulgence and romance of the African night. You will be woken at dawn with hot tea or coffee to be followed by a morning game drive in open 4 x 4 vehicles in the company of a game ranger and tracker team.  You will explore Kwandwe’s diverse terrain in search of cheetah, black rhino or elephant.  Return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast and then take a short walk if you wish with your ranger around the lodge to spot the smaller things.  Then lunch and the opportunity for a siesta or dip in the pool before afternoon tea and heading out on an afternoon/evening game drive. This game drive begins in the late afternoon and lasts until after dark, when spotlights are used for a glimpse into the nocturnal bush life. Spot the rarely seen porcupine, aardwolf or aardvark. Enjoy sundowners in a scenic location as the sun slowly sinks beneath the horizon.

Spend 3 – 4 hours tracking rhino with a specialist ranger and tracker team. Learn about the
habits of this threatened species, the issue of rhino poaching as well as Kwandwe’s own conservation efforts. Then return to your lodge for a mouthwatering dinner around a blazing fire in a boma or in your lodge’s dining area.
