Safari Experience

Over and above the morning and evening game drives and walking safaris, there are additional activities at extra cost as follows:

Things to do at Phinda Forest Lodge include:

A night spent under the stars in the heart of the bush.

Black rhino tracking on foot, take a guided tour of a nearby rehabilitation and breeding centre for South Africa’s endangered wild cat species, including caracal, African wild cat, serval and cheetah.

Go on an an Indian Ocean scuba safari.

For those looking for an active thrill beyond the excitement of Big Five sightings on a game drive vehicle, walking safaris offer an opportunity to connect with the African bush, interacting with all its inhabitants, from largest to smallest.

Photographic enthusiasts, from beginners to advanced, can now capture the wondrous landscapes and magical creatures of &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve, by taking advantage of a fully-equipped photographic safari vehicle.

Turtle Nesting experience from November to February – For four months during the southern hemisphere summer, the enormous leatherback and loggerhead turtles emerge from the Indian Ocean at Sodwana Bay to lay their precious eggs in the sand.

Wildlife & Birdlife

Having reintroduced cheetah to the area after an absence of over fifty years, &Beyond Phinda has quickly established a reputation as one of the best places to view and photograph these rare cats.

Along with cheetah, lion and leopard are tracked on the reserve on a daily basis and guests have a high likelihood of encountering these magnificent animals. Another success story at &BeyondPhinda is that of both the white and the more endangered black rhino. Brought back from the brink of extinction, both the grass eating white rhino and the shrub grazing black rhino are doing well at the reserve.

The rare sand forest in the northern parts of &Beyond Phinda is the perfect environment for some of the rarer smaller species. The shy red duiker is found grazing on fallen leaves and fruit and the tiny suni, one of the smallest antelope species, may also be seen.
