Safari Experience

Whether on a game drive, walking trail, sunset river excursion, or a private dinner for two, there is never enough time to exhaust the many ways there are to love this place.

Morning and evening game drives in open safari vehicles, bush walks, bird watching, astronomy (night sky safaris), specialist photographic safaris with Pete Oxford, bush breakfasts and dinners, boma dinners and children’s activities.

Rare finds of yellowwood and cedar trees, 5m high cycads and tree ferns are some of the plant species you will find. All of the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here.

Wildlife & Birdlife

Marataba enjoys exclusive use of one of the most game rich and beautiful areas of the Waterberg.  It is a conservation success story that has reinvigorated the Marakele National Park allowing fences to come down in former farming areas where Marataba is located and for wildlife to be re-introduced.

Marakele is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, with all the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world.
