Singita Pamushana Lodge

Singita Pamushana exudes an air of complete tranquility and calm, with a bold design incorporating the majestic scale of the terrain.

The lodge interiors reflect the signature Singita style, meticulously designed and uniquely interpreted by Singita’s interior designers Cécile & Boyd’s. Six luxurious suites and a magnificent 5-bedroomed villa vividly reflect the tribal history of the local Shangaan people.

The main lodge has indoor and open-air dining rooms, three lounges and an impressively stocked wine cellar, and lodge facilities include a bush spa and gym, as well as two communal, heated swimming pools with a Jacuzzi. Surrounded by pristine wilderness teeming with wildlife and ancient San rock art, it has a large population of black rhino. True to the Singita ethos, all profits generated here are invested in community, wildlife and conservation projects.

Safari Experience

Game Drives

Game Drives, with licensed guides in comfortable, open, 4-wheel drive vehicles are extremely popular at Pamushana. Drives are normally offered in the early morning and late afternoon, enabling guests to see the large variety of wildlife and birds.

Bush Walks

Walks with fully licensed professional guides are a highlight of the Pamushana experience. There can be few better places for wild walks than among the sandstone features or along the riverine forests of the Chiredzi rivers.

Photographic Hides

Photographic hides provide for that special close encounter, where absolutely anything may appear to thrill the hidden guest (please be advised this is only from July onward to the start of the rainy season, which is usually in late November).

Bushman Painting Trails

87 San rock art sites have been discovered in the sandstone hills to date. Some of these paintings are reached by invigorating walks into the hills, but others can be found closer to home.

Fishing

There is excellent fishing on the Pamushana Dam. Species that you might have the opportunity of catching include: various bream species (tilapia), Sharp toothed catfish, Tigerfish (seasonal) and Largemouth bass. The lodge provides fishing equipment or you may bring your own along. Please be advised that if you are a keen fly fisherman, you will need to bring along your own rod and gear.

Wildlife & Birdlife

Singita Pamushana prides itself on the quality and natural diversity of its wildlife, hosting a marvellous spectrum of Africa’s great game animals: elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros and hippopotamus; lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and wild dog; giraffe and zebra; blue wildebeest, impala, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, nyala and sable antelope.

As well as ‘The big five’, the area also boasts ‘The small five’, a unique combination of little antelope – grey duiker, Sharpe’s grysbok, steenbok, klipspringer and oribi.

A fascinating array of small nocturnal animals may be seen on the exciting ‘spotlight’ drive on the way back from the afternoon drive, which provides guests with the opportunity of seeing serval, caracal, African wild cat, civet, genet, black backed jackal, porcupine, Spotted hyena and the secretive brown hyena, which is resident but seldom seen.

The birdlife at Singita Pamushana is also superb, with approximately 400 recorded species, and many ‘specials’. The birds of prey are particularly outstanding. With the notable exception of Matopos Hills (Southern Zimbabwe), we know of no other places in Africa boasting a greater number of species of eagles, hawks, owls and vultures.

Equally spectacular are the Lowveld trees, which are impressive in size and number. The sandstone hills hide a “surprise Miombo woodland community” of birds, whose members might more usually be expected on the highveld.

Guests may fill their days and evenings with game viewing safaris, sunset cruise excursions, bush walks, tennis and tiger fishing, or simply relax by the lodge’s pool.
