Safari Itinerary Summary

6 September 2017

Depart London Heathrow by own arrangement on an overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. You will receive a VIP Meet & Greet to assist you to your connecting flight to Victoria Falls Airport, Zimbabwe.

Victoria Falls - As the land cuts away beneath the ancient Zambezi River, the waters plummet dramatically into the Batoka Gorge, over 100 metres below. The angrily churned up spray shoots skyward, painting the landscape in billowing clouds. This striking ‘’smoke that thunders” can be seen for miles, a geographic pointer summoning visitors into its presence.

Hwange National Park - As well as its famous elephant populations, it is said that Hwange is sanctuary to 25 types of predator and more than 400 bird species. Large predators include lions, cheetah and leopard and there are the exciting smaller nocturnal predators too of serval, civet and bat eared foxes. Special sightings include the roan and sable antelope. Hwange is also an important breeding ground for the African wild dog and where populations of the endangered white rhino reside.

7 & 8 September 2017

7 September - On arrival into Victoria Falls Airport you will have a Private road transfer to The Victoria Falls Hotel to spend 2 nights in two Deluxe Rooms, b&b.

Built in 1904, the historic Victoria Falls Hotel is an icon, its gracious colonial architecture leading out to expansive terraces and lawns overlooking the Victoria Falls Bridge. Décor includes the memorabilia and old-world charm of a bygone era, a nod to the pioneers and explorers whose fame lives on, immortalised in the hotel’s elegant style. Using the mist from the Falls as a beacon, stroll through attractively landscaped gardens along a private pathway, to the scenic Victoria Falls rainforests. High Tea is served on the terrace, a delightful tradition which fits so well with the atmosphere and ethos of this luxurious hotel.

On Friday, 8 September you will be collected from the Victoria Falls Hotel at 1600/1630 hrs for the short journey to where you will board the Zambezi Royal for a 2 hour Sunset Luxury River Cruise. Enjoy gourmet snacks, wine and spirits in a relaxed atmosphere whilst experiencing the sights and sounds of the Zambezi River.
The Zambezi Royal seats a maximum of 28 guests and is a spacious and contemporary cruise boat.

9, 10 & 11 September 2017

9 September - You will be collected at 11 am and have a shared road transfer to Hwange National Park. You will travel by road to Dete where you will board the historic Elephant Express Rail Car (refreshments will be served on the train) to travel leisurely to Ngamo Siding where a 4x4 vehicle will meet you to take you to on the 10-15 minute journey to Camelthorn Lodge.
You will spend 3 nights at Camelthorn Lodge in two Forest Villas on a fully inclusive basis.

Welcome to Hwange - Royal hunting grounds in the 19th century and declared a national park in 1929, today, Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve. Vast stretches of wilderness, extend from horizon to horizon and form part of the ancient migration route towards Northern Botswana’s Chobe and the Linyanti.
This diverse landscape of mopane and teak forests, semi-desert scrubland and granite hills is inhabited by a wide variety of mammals and birds. Although a year round destination, Hwange is particularly appealing during the winter months (April to October) when large concentrations of animals flock to artificially pumped waterholes as the seasonal pans dry out. The park’s network of waterholes sustains life when natural resources are unavailable. Massive herds of elephant make their presence felt during the dry period. Buffalo, zebra, sable and roan antelope, as well as lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog may be seen.
Activities include: game drives, night drives, day excursions, hide sits, a school tour and village visit. Your guide will discuss with you what your preferred activities will be on a daily basis. The game vehicles take a maximum of 6/7 guests so that each has a 'window' seat.

12, 13 & 14 September 2017

12 September - Depart Camelthorn by private air charter to Victoria Falls Airport. (Time of departure to be advised). You will be met for a shared one hour road transfer to your next destination of Zambezi Sands in the Zambezi National Park where you will spend 3 nights, fully inclusive in two Canvas Suites with private decks and pools.

Strung along the banks of the magnificent Zambezi River, within the Zambezi National Park, the Zambezi Sands River Camp commands exquisite vistas from raised decks. 8 bedouin-style luxury tents are well-appointed, light and airy. Each opens up to private decks with splash pools – the ideal place to unwind whilst watching the slow passage of the mighty river as it flows by. Canvas central areas and large decks provide comfortable spaces to socialise and dine in unpretentious style. Exciting game drives and game walks are conducted through the reserve. A laid-back riverside ambiance and activities such as canoeing, fishing and island picnics enhance the overall experience. Enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Victoria Falls rain forest (park fees not included) and a visit to the Victoria Falls curio market.

15 September 2017

  2. You are travelling to the wilds of Africa and you want to make sure that if anything unforeseen was to happen whilst on your trip that you are protected.
  3. It is a condition of travelling with Weekend a la Carte that you have a policy in place.
